Wine Review: 2009 Antinori Villa Antinori Toscana IGT
I've been buying a lot of wine at Costco recently. The prices are competitive and they carry both daily drinking bottles and a selection of the more special wines. I had seen this Super Tuscan several times before and decided to give it a try.
A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, the Villa Antinori was even better than I had hoped. The color was a dark garnet, not as purple as I had expected, with dark fruit, plums, blackberries, and an almost herbal quality I'm assuming from the Cabernet. The spice was there, but not overpowering, and the tannins were full, but soft. This is definitely a wine to decant, it takes a bit to open up, but it is a lovely wine, especially at this price point. For $15 this was quite a wine, complex, well balanced, and fully integrated. I'll happily buy again.
